The other day I had a neighbours van to clean, not so much to clean as to prep for new decals to be put on to advertise his plumbing business.
With the van being a 2013 Nissan Primastar (aka Vauxhall Movano aka Renault Trafic). It was previously been liveried which had been removed, but it left ghosts on the left side and on the bonnet.
Neighbour needed the van washed, de-tarred, fallout removed and any imperfections removed to be as smooth as possible.
It took a litre of tar and glue remover, a litre of fallout remover, some polish and a lot of elbow grease.
A lot of fallout.
Finished up lovely, every panel smooth to the touch, free from fallout, tar, grease and imperfections.
Saw my neighbour today, apparently the sign writers were impressed with the work and asked who did it.
It’s always nice to be appreciated.
Now I need to rewash it, and put some protection on and dress the tyres and trim.

I am looking for a tire dressing compound that doesn’t look like crap in two weeks with the tires turning brown and oxidized. I have yet to find a product like this. I haven’t tried many but I can say “Tire wet” is not it.

I’ve used Gtechniq T1 Tyres & Trim for several years.
It’s slightly thicker than water, goes on with a sponge (I use a wax applicator foam ‘hockey puck’), One coat gives a nice lustre that lasts, to achieve a more glossy look, add another coat after ten minutes.
(Gtechniq T2 Tyre Dressing, is for tyres only and I find it doesn’t last as long as Gtechniq T1 Tyres & Trim ).
Before and after.
The turning brown is the tyre ‘blooming’ it’s a built in protection from UV damage. Using a good degreaser and stiff nylon brush, wash the tyres until the brown water runs clear, allow to dry and then apply the dressing. This will allow the dressing to adhere better and last longer.

I just wish I could spend more time doing it with proper facilities and not have to go to work.

Lol. Ye’, the tyres and trim haven’t been treated.
The task was to trip back anything that shouldn’t be there.

What’s fallout remover? Is that taking embedded stuff out of the paint?
My white car is filthy and has all these dark specs on the paint, a clay bar takes them out eventually, but if there was something else that might be appealing

Well you got the knowledge, time to crowdfund.
Or at least a great side gig. The sign guys that decaled that truck might scare up some work.
All the good detailers by me are expensive and booked months out.

Fallout is metallic particles such as brake dust.
The burn’ t brake dust/iron particles (from rail yards, factories) embeds into the paint, rusts, expands, etc...
It can be tran smitted to the paint from the vehicle itself or churned up from the road by the tyres or the vortices caused by the vehicle traveling over it.
Tar is a dark b rown colour and rough to the touch, brake dust/fallout out is a soft caramel colour and mostly un-detectable to the touch.
Fallout removers safely remove these ferrous metal particles by dissolving them making them easy to wipe or wash off.
I use Bilt Hamber Korrosol but there are many others on the market.
I prefer this way to claying as claying can cause micromarring to the paint, which needs polished out or a filler glaze to hide them.

Nah, I could never do it for money, money taints it and makes it dirty.
I get enjoyment and like a therapy out of doing it and seeing the owner of the cars faces when they get their car.
The compliments are nice too. Lol.

Thanks, the tyres and trim let it down.
But the job was to strip the van. Next time I get to gloss it up.

Wait, with what you show us on oppo you don’t get regular compliments?
Let me help with that: “wow, great job”!
Seriously, you do great work. I need to find a trustworthy and reasonable detailer here in Houston. The local car wash has a detail guy, but nowhere near your league. With 4 kids I just don’t ever put that high enough on my list to do myself (and the E28 repair list isn’t getting shorter!).

I get compliments, but it’s nice when the car owner gets a compliment on their car from some body else and then they pass it on to te

Oh good! You can move to BC and help me when I detail. I won’t have to pay you, as you say, it taints the experience!
And send me some of that Bilt Hamber gold! I’m so mad we can’t get Auto Wheels or Korrosol over here.

Sounds good, I'm in.
You can get Bilt Hamber sent from the U.S. can’t you?

I haven’t seen a supplier for it, and shipping across the border, especially with heavy chemicals, can get super expensive. At that point Iron X looks like a good value.
